CONTROL METHODS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF PWM INVERTER FOR DRIVING LSM

In Japan, a superconducting magnetic transportation system is under development as a means for high-speed transportation. A linear synchronous motor (LSM), with primary side on ground to drive the vehicle, is adopted in this system. This power supply system needs a power converter with large capacity which is able to generate variable voltage and variable frequency. As such a power converter, we produced a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter of voltage-fed type at Miyazaki Maglev Test Track. This paper describes the PWM inverter for driving LSM at Miyazaki Maglev Test Track, with emphasis on its control methods and characteristics.
