CONSTRUCTION OF AQUEDUCT CUM ROADWAY AT THE CROSSING OF THE PROPOSED VAIGAL LINK CANAL WITH MANJALAR RIVER IN TAMILNADU

The paper describes the construction of an aqueduct cum roadway in preference to the construction of a syphon. The paper brings out the salient features of the bridge including details of the cross drain works. As mentioned above, the original proposal was for the construction of a canal syphon by construction of the box culvert. However, after a detailed examination of the site it was observed that considering the possibility of choking up of the syphon and the problems of silt removal etc., and with a view to economy and easy inspection, an aqueduct would be much more suitable than the syphon. The paper also brings out the details of construction of reinforced concrete box section with its substructure. For the covering abstract see IRRD 860938.
