A NEW METHOD FOR COMPACTION CONTROL OF SAND
Present methods for compaction control of sandy materials are briefly examined. A new apparatus has been constructed to measure the state of compaction more accurately and rapidly than is possible using existing methods. The apparatus has been tested on four different sands in the laboratory. The results of the test programme show that for the materials used in the tests, the apparatus gives reliable determinations of the compactness. The practicability of the apparatus has been checked by use on several jobs. /Author/
