A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL UK-DESIGNED INERT GAS SYSTEM
The F.A. Hughes Company, a division of B.P., is filling orders for scrubbing towers to be installed in 13 OBO's and tankers. By running exhaust gases from the ships boilers or engines through several layers of water, the temperature and acidity of the gases are greatly reduced. This inert gas is then directly piped to the cargo tanks to virtually eliminate the possibility of an explosion occurring in the tank. This system is equipped with simple controls and alarms and all safety equipment is provided with the unit.
