DEVELOPMENT OF A CENTRAL HYDRAULIC FLUID FOR AUTOMOBILES. FINAL REPORT

ENTWICKLUN EINER ZENTRALHYDRAULIKFLUESSIGKEIT FUER KRAFTFAHRZEUGE. ABSCHLUSSBERICHT

For the development of a central hydraulic fluid (CHF), different approaches were studied. The main problem was to unify the water compatibility required by conventional brake systems and the good lubrication properties needed by the dynamic systems, especially in pumps. As a result we show that from our present point of view it is impossible to create a fluid covering both mentioned properties under technically reasonable conditions. A new hydraulic fluid based on poly- alpha-olefins is presented. The fluid is biologically degradable (80%-CEC), covering all requirements of the Prometheus hydraulic fluid and which is recyclable with existing structures. It is further shown that the new CHF can also be used in conventional brake systems if minor technical modifications are introduced.
