IS IT GOOD ENOUGH?

Many track engineers believe that present conventional track is inadequate for today's heavy fast trains, a new track research laboratory is being built in Chicago to test such track components as ballast, subgrade and fittings and to investigate maintenance practices, wheel loading and track stability. In addition, the Sante Fe has built a test section into its main line to study eight different types of track structures. The following article describes the development of the concrete tie and discusses its success in several sites in North America.
