PRIVATELY FINANCING TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS IN BOSTON'S LONGWOOD MEDICAL AND ACADEMIC AREA THROUGH COOPERATIVE PLANNING
This paper documents the coordination process associated with planning, financing, and implementing transportation improvements in Boston's Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA). Most of the institutions located in the LMA coordinate these and other efforts through a member-financed shared service organization, the Medical Academic and Scientific Community Organization (MASCO). MASCO members have financed numerous transportation projects to improve access to their facilities since the mid-1970s. These projects are described along with some of the key lessons learned in the process.
