STRUCTURAL EVALUATION OF A 34-YEAR-OLD PRECAST POST-TENSIONED CONCRETE GIRDER

A 34-year-old precast, post-tensioned concrete bridge girder was removed from a bridge in Fargo, North Dakota, and subjected to load testing to failure. The cracking moment and moment strength of the girder and the effective prestress were measured and compared with predicted values. Measured moment-curvature and load-deflection curves were also compared with analytical results. Material properties of concrete and prestressing steel were determined through testing. The structural condition of the girder was found to be excellent. There was good agreement between the measured and analytically predicted response of the girder.
