OPERATING EXPERIENCE ON TWO CLASSES OF MEDIUM-SPEED ENGINED SHIPS
A decision was taken in the early sixties, following careful consideration, to install twin medium-speed diesel engines in certain new tonnage being planned by Thos. and Jno. Brocklebank Ltd. and Moss Tankers Ltd., whose vessels were under Brocklebank management. The two classes of ship under consideration were a tramp vessel capable of lifting l0,500 tons and a products carrier of 25,000 tons d.w. A total of four ships were finally constructed--two of each class--and a recent paper by Cmdr. K.I. Short describes some of the operating experiences of these vessels.
