STABILIZATION WITH CEMENT FOR SOIL-CEMENT AND GRAVEL-CEMENT MIXTURES

ESTABILIZACION CON CEMENTO, SUELO-CEMENTO Y GRAVA-CEMENTO

By adding cement to a granular material it is possible to obtain a material with increased strength, durability and impervious to water and frost. These properties facilitate (1) an increase in the bearing capacity of the lower layers of the surfacing; (2) the replacement of granular bases in flexible pavements carrying heavy traffic, thus preventing tracking and fatigue in bituminous surfacings; (3) the construction of an even and stable base for concrete surfacings; (4) the economical strengthening of secondary lightly-trafficked roads by applying a stabilized layer, approximately 15 cm thick, topped by a bituminous surface dressing or the spreading of a double layer of gravel. The present technological achievements in this field are reviewed. /TRRL/
