THE LOAD CARRYING CAPACITIES OF SYMMETRICALLY LOADED SHALLOW SHELLS
A rigid perfectly plastic analysis is presented herein for a shallow shell of degree n greater than or equal to 2 subjected to a uniformly distributed static pressure. Exact theoretical results have been obtained for three approximate yield surfaces when the outer boundary of a shell of second degree is either simply supported or fully clamped. The analytical procedure is relatively simple and is suitable for a study of the dynamic response of shallow shells which will be considered in a companion article.
