THE MACRO ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF FREIGHT TRANSPORT INNOVATIONS - AN EXPLORATION
EEN VERKENNING NAAR DE MACRO-ECONOMISCGE BATEN VAN INNOVATIES IN HET GOEDERENVERVOER
This article discusses the economic benefits of new ideas to container transport. A previous innovation is used as an example. Both the primary effects and the secondary effects of the innovation are analysed. The method is developed in research commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. Two lines of enquiry have been followed. In the first, the importance of the container transport is given by means of macro economic indicators. It is the transport sector itself that is taken as starting point. The starting point of the second line of enquiry is the relationships between the transport sector and the other sectors in the economy. Here the logistic cost is especially important. It is found that it is possible to analyse the macro economic benefits of the container transport with this method. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 856918.
