WATER LEAKAGES IN ROAD TUNNELS

VANNLEKKASJER I VEGTUNNELER

Ground water flows to tunnels through pipe-, fissure-, and plate- like fractures in the rock. High pressure ground water may be met during drilling. Water inflow may retard tunneling. Drainage and settlement may cause damage. In order to prepare remedial measures, the ground water conditions should be mapped at the planning stage. During drilling the workers should not stand behind the drilling machine. When tunnelling in zones where water inflow may be expected, some boreholes of two rounds depth should be drilled for each round to map the ground water conditions in advance of the face. Water inflow that may hamper the tunnelling should be grouted. Permanent protective measures against water ingress are expensive and should be carefully planned. /Author/ carefully planned. ;Author;
