The author recalls that one of the main aspects of motorway alignment is the calculation of its geometric axis, which is based on the following data: (1) plans at a satisfactory scale; (2) control points; (3) geometric specifications as a function of the specific design speed of the project; (4) predicted traffic, which will be used as the basis for designing the transverse section. During the last few years, important progress has been made in the field of geometry, particularly in the following subjects: (1) rapid and accurate setting up of plans by photogrammetric means; (2) mechanized calculations which enable solutions to be tested in a very short time; (3) establishment of curves such as the clothoid curve, which facilitates a better adaptation to the topographic conditions of the terrain. The number of the covering abstract is IRRD Abstract No. 101010. /TRRL/
