RECENT TRENDS IN CONCRETE SURFACINGS

ULTIMAS TENDENCIAS EN PAVIMENTOS DE HORMIGON HIGRAULICO

The author reviews the stages of development of concrete surfacings from the traditional design (with shrinkage and expansion joints) to the most recent trends (continuously reinforced concrete pavement (Illinois), or concrete surfacings with sawed joints and short slabs without reinforcement (California). Details are given of the different types of surfacings, and mention is made of the present trend to follow the Californian method because of its economy and simplicity. A study is made of materials specifications and of the problems of construction as regards improved subgrades and roadbases. Details are given of the first experiment carried out in Spain on the Seville-Cadix motorway. The number of the covering abstract of the conference is IRRD Abstract No. 101022. /TRRL/
