NEW DESIGN OF UNDERPASS STRUCTURES BY URT METHOD

Improvement of the design of URT method has been examined mainly to reduce its construction cost, and the estimation of stiffness of joints between elements, which was neglected in design because of its impossible quantification, was the urgent important theme. This paper describes the outline of loading test on the large scale element model, the resulting proposition of the joint stiffness and the comparison between the measured behaviors of actual through bridge type underpass and the analysed ones by a recently developed design method to consider the stiffness. The analysed results are in relatively good agreement with the measured ones.
