SYMPOSIUM ON INTEGRATED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS, IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, JUNE 24-26, 1992: SESSION FIVE, PLANNING FOR ITMS: LA SMART CORRIDOR CASE STUDY; SMART CORRIDOR INTRODUCTION

Mr. Kay introduced the Los Angeles Smart Corridor project, which has as its goal the testing of technologically advanced methods for improving regional mobility. He discussed the project objectives, its focus on the Santa Monica Freeway, the integration of several agencies through the project, system elements to maximize the efficiency of the freeway and surface streets, its operational support features, and the system configuration. Mr. Kay concluded his presentation by discussing the use of expert systems for decision support in the Smart Corridor.
