RAILROAD ELECTRIFICATION - A STATUS REPORT

The status of electrification is examined from the standpoint of North American railroads. Covered are definitions of high-voltage, commercial-frequency electrification; the rebirth of interest in the U.S.; advantages and disadvantages of electrified operation; changes needed in signal systems; estimates of costs; and tables showing extent of electification in the U.S. and other nations.
