SETTLEMENT AND STRESSES IN AN ELASTIC SOIL LAYER LOADED WITH UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED SURFACE LOAD
SLEGANJE I NAPONI U JEDNOM ELASTICNOM SLOJU TLA OPTERECENOM RAVNOMERNO PODELJENIM OPTERECENJEM NA POVRSINI
The article describes the calculation of soil settlement according to Jean-Pierre Girodu's dissertation (France). The calculation is based on the theory of elasticity in the case of finite depth of a compressible layer and being subject to uniformly distributed pressure for different rates of the Poisson's ratio. This method is suitable for the calculation of soil settlement caused by a uniformly distributed pressure over the strip loading surface of limited width, the fact which corresponds to the load of an embankment. It has advantages over other methods both in accuracy and simplicity.
