COMPUTER PROGRAM SYSTEM FOR DESIGNING OF MARINE STRUCTURES

The writers have successfully developed a load calculation program and a member stress checking program and have incorporated them into a computer program system for the design of marine structures. Principal characteristics of this program system are as follows; (1) The three steps in the designing, i.e., load calculation, structural analysis and member stress checking are systematically connected with one another in this program system. (2) In the load calculating program, a computer is used to decide the load condition which gives the maximum forces exerting on a structure on the basis of the structural shapes and the load conditions, and also to calculate the forces acting on the structural members. Stokes' fifth order wave theory is used in this program. (3) In the stress checking program, the member stress is calculated at the both ends of member. It is checked with an allowable stress and the user can select the allowable stress based on the following rules; AISC, ABS, LLOYD'S and N.V. rules.
