MODELLING AND SEISMIC IMAGING OF BURIED STRUCTURES

This dissertation deals with the theory and methods for reconstructing the geometrical and mechanical properties of buried structures from wave scattering experiments. This objective is pursued in two stages: in the first stage, models are developed for the interaction of propagating waves with buried bodies (forward modeling); in the second stage, features of the scattered field generated by these buried bodies are used to assess their geometrical and mechanical characteristics (inverse problem).
