Lightweight cellular concretes are attractive building materials for a number of reasons: they offer a unique combination of moderate thermal insulation and stiffness, low cost and incombustibility. They have relatively low strength, however, and are brittle. In this paper the authors describe the behavior of composite cement/polystyrene foams with improved strength and ductility.
