In the past several years considerable time and attention has been given to the underground space development at Kansas City by geographers and geologists at UMKC . During this period several national science organizations and smaller groups have met in Kansas City and viewed the subsurface space developments via field trips led by members of the Department of Geosciences. Numerous talks and papers also have been given to groups and organizations, civic and scientific. Because of the interest generated by these activities it became apparent that a short documentary film should be made portraying underground space utilization as it currently exists here and the attention being given to it by the University. Therefore, a film on underground space was produced in the summer of 1974, largely under the leadership of Dr. Truman Stauffer of the Department of Geosciences, UMKC, and the audio-visual staff of the University. This short film UNDERGROUND SPACE: KANSAS CITY'S THIRD DIMENSION sets the stage for the papers which follow. /Author/
