FUNDAMENTALS OF LIQUEFACTION UNDER CYCLIC LOADING

Comments are made on the author's solution of the mechanism of pore-water pressure build up in sand due to cyclic loading, and observations are made with regard to the derivation fo certain equations. The material characteristics are used in predictions are: the volume change due to cyclic shear strain, volume change due to unloading, and the relationship between shear stress and shear strain. Ways are suggested for the simplification of the first two of these relationships and other relationships. Two examples of the use of the simplifications are given in a table and the results are plotted in a diagram.
