COMMENTS ON "AIRLINE COMPETITION ENHANCEMENT ACT OF 1992". STATEMENT OF JOHN H. ANDERSON, JR., BEFORE THE SUBCOMMITTEE ON AVIATION, COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND TRANSPORTATION, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

This is the testimony of John H. Anderson, Jr., Associate Director, Transportation Issues, Resources, Community, and Economic Development Division, General Accounting Office (GAO), on the proposal to enhance competition in the nation's airline industry through addressing some of the problems associated with airline-owned computerized reservation systems (CRSs). Major airline ownership of the CRSs used by travel agents to book most airline flights is often cited as a major barrier to competition in the airline industry. The testimony summarizes GAO's findings on the impact of airline-owned CRSs on airline competition and reviews how the proposed legislation addresses the problems.
