COMPUTERS IN CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION. INTERACTIVE HORIZONTAL FORMWORK SELECTION SYSTEM
This article describes a tool that was developed to assist the formwork engineer/planner in selecting a horizontal formwork system. Formwork systems are described, as well as the factors affecting the selection of formwork sytems. The expertise of those involved in all phases of formwork was used to produce a body of knowledge represented as an expert system. The SLABFORM horizontal formwork selection system is described which selects a horizontal formwork system and provides advice on a variety of issues. The system requires the user to answer questions in multiple choice format. The SLABFORM knowledge base, input and output, and other system features are described.
