PREVENTING AUTOMOBILE INJURY: NEW FINDINGS FROM EVALUATION RESEARCH. CHAPTER 6 - SOCIAL NORMS AND DRUNK DRIVING COUNTERMEASURES (WITH COMMENTS)

In this chapter recent trends in drunk driving social activism, legislative countermeasures, drinking and driving behavior, and alcohol-related traffic fatalities are briefly summarized. The chapter then assesses what evaluation research tells us about the effectiveness of some public policies to deter drunk driving. Finally, an attempt is made to reconcile research findings with observed trends and to suggest directions for future research.
