ESTIMATION OF PLASTIC CURVATURE AFTER SHAKEDOWN OF CONTINUOUS BEAMS. SECOND NATIONAL STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING CONFERENCE, ADELAIDE, 3-5 OCTOBER 1990; PREPRINTS OF PAPERS
A method of analysis is developed which establishes the magnitude and distribution of plastic curvature in continuous beams at shakedown, using an accurate model of applied moving loads, and incorporating a non-linear moment-curvature relationship. The procedure will also trace the growth in plastic curvature for passages of load above the shakedown limit. The results indicate that many beams will attain the shakedown limit without developing plastic curvatures beyond material capabilities. The program can be readily extended to model the response of practical bridges to design vehicles. For the covering entry of the conference see IRRD 831067. (Author/TRRL)
