PROTECTION OF CONCRETE IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES THROUGH IMPROVED CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES . PROTECTION OF CONCRETE. PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE HELD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE, SEPTEMBER 11-13, 1990

Limited availability of suitable materials, equipment and skilled labour, absence of relevant specifications and codes of practice and severe climatic conditions may influence the performance of concrete structures in a developing country. Economical and feasible methods for the protection of concrete in developing countries must be developed by considering the judicious use of local materials and techniques. The paper briefly describes the results of some studies on construction practices and the performance of concrete in developing countries. Based on these studies a number of suggestions have been put up in the paper for the protection of concrete through improvements in the prevalent construction practices. (Author/TRRL)
