FILED APPLICATIONS OF CONCRETE SURFACE IMPREGNATION . PROTECTION OF CONCRETE. PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE HELD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE, SEPTEMBER 11-13, 1990

The Bureau of Reclamation, of the U.S. Department of the Interior, treated the first full-size highway bridge deck with polymer surface impregnation in 1974 and subsequently provided technical assistance to the Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation, on surface impregnation demonstration projects on eight additional highway bridge projects. In 1982-83, the roadway over Grand Coulee Dam, Washington, was treated and protected by surface impregnation, a project of some 19,600 yd2 (14,980 m2) of treated surface. This paper uses the case study approach to discuss the polymer surface impregnation processes, costs, problems, and benefits achieved on these projects. (Author/TRRL)
