The application of Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) powder coatings to reinforcing bars (rebar) has a successful track record of some sixteen years in North America. The technology developed to meet the challenge presented by demands for an increased maintenance-free lifetime for bridge decks. Premature corrosion of rebar in reinforced concrete bridge structures was prevalent in areas where severe winters necessitate the liberal use of de-icing salts. The technology has now spread outside of North America and custom coating plants are established in Europe, Middle-East and Far East.
