A COMPARISON BETWEEN FULL DISPLACEMENT PRESSUREMETER TESTS AND DILATOMETER TESTS IN CLAY . PRESSUREMETERS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, ORGANISED BY THE BRITISH GEOTECHNICAL SOCIETY, OXFORD UNIVERSITY, APRIL 2-6, 1990

The results of full-displacement pressuremeter tests (FDPMT) and flat dilatometer tests (DMT) conducted at a number of test sites consisting of clays are presented. The sites range in stiffness from very soft sensitive marine clays to very stiff glacial clay tills. The initial and limit pressures from the FDPMT are compared with the DMT lift-off and 1 mm expansion pressures. The results of these tests are also compared with piezocone and field vane tests. An approach is suggested for developing the P-y curve for laterally loaded displacement piles using the DMT by matching the expansion curve obtained from the DMT. (Author/TRRL)
