NUMERICAL ASSESSMENT OF SELF-BORING PRESSUREMETER TESTS IN A CLAY CALIBRATION CHAMBER . PRESSUREMETERS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM, ORGANISED BY THE BRITISH GEOTECHNICAL SOCIETY, OXFORD UNIVERSITY, APRIL 2-6, 1990

A calibration chamber is currently being used for performing SBP (self boring pressiometer) tests in a cylindrical clay bed (1 m high by 0.8 m diameter) subject to constant radial as well as vertical stress. To complement the experimental study a numerical assessment of the tests has been carried out to examine some of the assumptions used in deriving the soil parameters from the test results. It is shown that for constant rate of strain tests and for the particular geometry of the calibration chamber, the effect of consolidation on the derived parameters is small. (Author/TRRL)
