INFOCARGO: INFORMATIESYSTEEM VOOR PROGNOSE EN BELEIDSINFORMATIE GOEDERENVERVOER

For policy-making in goods transport a strategic planning model can be very helpful. The developments in demand and supply, related to economic growth and technological improvements are important and have to be generated by the model. Moreover the effects of certain policy measures (or packages of measures) should be calculated. On behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Transport and Public Works (Department SX), the Nederlands Economisch Instituut (NEI) has developed a structure for a management information system which enables the policy maker to get a proper view on the present day situation in national and international goods transport. This system, INFOCARGO, offers in principle the opportunity to trace out the impacts on traffic, economy and environment of changes in volume, composition, modal split e.g. in goods transport. The purpose of this contribution is to offer the opportunity to discuss the structure of the model and its underlying assumptions. (Author/TRRL)
