ROADS INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (RIMS) : "SOFTWARE DESIGN BY COMMITTEE" . PROCEEDINGS OF THE 1989 ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE ROADS AND TRANSPORTATION ASSOCIATION OF CANADA, CALGARY, ALBERTA, SEPTEMBER 17-21, 1989

The Roads Inventory Management System (RIMS) is a computer program designed for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to improve the methodology for distributing road construction and maintenance funds to Ontario municipalities. The specifications for the system were developed by the Public Roads Tri-Committee (Ontario) Association, a joint committee comprised of the Ontario Municipal Engineers' Association, the Ontario Good Roads Association and the Ontario chapter of the American Public Works Association. The major component databases of the system are road needs, road inventory, maintenance tasks, traffic information and legal/land use data. The paper presents an overview of the system and its features, and summarizes its current status and capabilities. (TRRL )
