ENERGY USE IMPACTS OF THE MOBILE SOURCE PROVISIONS OF THE CLEAN AIR ACT AMENDMENTS OF 1990. IN: THE TRANSPORTATION IMPACTS OF THE CLEAN AIR ACT: MOBILE SOURCE EMISSIONS AND ALTERNATIVE FUELS. ABSTRACTED PROCEEDINGS. DES MOINES, IOWA, JULY 25-26, 1991

In this paper, estimates of the impact on petroleum use of the mobile source provisions of the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) of 1990 are presented. These provisions may provide the largest oil displacement potential of the CAAA. The variety of assumptions required concerning technological developments and market response results in a wide range of estimates. In the future, reductions in the uncertainties associated with these developments and responses will allow for more definitive estimates of oil displacement.
