MODULI AND DAMPING FACTORS OF SOFT MARINE CLAYS

The details are described of a study in which dynamic moduli and damping factors of soft marine clays were determined from resonant columns and cyclic simple shear tests. It was found that the small strain moduli of the test clays after primary consolidation are proportional to consolidation stress and they also depend on void ratio and plasticity index. The modulus reduction curves for the test clays are very similar to those obtained from various onshore and offshore clays. Damping curves for the test clays were found to be similar to those reported for various onshore and offshore clays. These and other findings are presented and discussed.
