ADVANCED TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS FOR ARTERIAL STREETS. A EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE. TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING IN A NEW ERA. ISSUE PAPERS FOR THE ITE 1992 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA

During the Institute of Transportation Engineers tour of Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems in Europe in 1991, there were 20 site visits and symposia in Great Britain, Netherlands, Germany and France. This paper reviews the site visits, symposia, and observations on this tour of advanced traffic management on urban arterial streets. Visits in London (England), Delft (Netherlands), Bonn (Germany), Berlin (Germany), and Paris (France) are described. The SCOOT, and TRANSYT systems in England, the ALI-SCOUT system in Germany, and the CARMINET system in France are noted.
