BACK TO THE FUTURE: TRIP GENERATION CHARACTERISTICS OF TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENTS. TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING IN A NEW ERA. ISSUE PAPERS FOR THE ITE 1992 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA
This paper reviews some of the historical considerations that preceded suburban auto-oriented development, examines some of the factors that influence trip generation from households, and suggests a trip generation rate that will be appropriate for application within the context of analyzing the travel impacts of new transit oriented developments in Sacramento County, California. European and Canadian experience in the area is noted. An approach to estimating non-motorized mode usage is described, as well as a network coding approach in the regional travel model.
