PREDICTION METHOD FOR LOCAL SCOUR BY WARMED COOLING-WATER JETS
A numerical method is described in which the behavior of warm jets which have a higher temperature than the surrounding water is calculated by a 2-equation turbulence model within a 2- or 3-dimensional calculation region, in which the progressive deformation due to the local scour is taken into account. The calculation of the local scour is alo performed unsteadily in parallel with the calculation of the flows. The region and the depth of the scoured sand bed are calculated through the total amount of bed load and suspended load transported by the traction and convection forces of the flows. The study confirmed the validity of the prediction method through comparisons with the results obtained by a 3-dimensional warm-jet experiment above a fixed bed and two local scour experiments under two- and three-dimensional flows.
