FIELD LOAD TEST ON FULL-SCALE REINFORCED CONCRETE FRAME

This is a report of a load test to the ultimate capacity of two main beams of a 5-story, reinforced concrete frame structure. The frame was part of a 28-year-old building that was demolished soon after completion of the load test. The load tests detected sources of distress, established load distribution patterns in the structural frame, and helped understand the failure mechanisms of beams at the ultimate limit state. The details of the study are summarized. The study showed that the ultimate strength of structural members of an existing building can be obtained accurately when in situ material properties and dimensions are used.
