TORSIONAL STIFFNESS OF ARBITRARILY SHAPED EMBEDDED FOUNDATIONS

A comprehensive study is described of torsional radiation damping of embedded rigid foundations with a rigorous boundary element formulation, on the basis of which are developed, closed-form simple algebraic formulas for estimating, inexpensively and reliably, the torsional radiation damping of rigid foundations embedded in a relatively deep homogeneous soil deposit. The model is versatile enough to handle foundations having any arbitrary basemat shape and various degrees of contact between the vertical sidewalls, and the surrounding soil.
