TRAFFIC AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN METROPOLITAN KHARTOUM: PROBLEMS AND POSSIBILITIES. IN: URBAN TRANSPORT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES: LESSONS IN INNOVATION

The problems of traffic and public transport in Metropolitan Khartoum have become chronic, acute, and urgent. As the metropolitan population continues to grow at a high rate while traffic and transport facilities grow at an insignificant rate and in a haphazard manner, these problems are exacerbated and become beyond tackling. This paper outlines the salient features and causes of these problems and recommends some policy measures, both short and long run, that are deemed feasible and effective to help alleviate these problems.
