1990 CENSUS AND TRANSPORTATION PLANNING
The importance of the decennial census in transportation planning is discussed, and the information of most importance to transportation planning is noted. The changes in content of the 1990 census are noted, and the two elements of the 1990 Census Transportation Planning Package are discussed: statewide and urban. The potential use of census data in the calibration and application of transportation planning models are listed and discussed. The applications relate to the following: land use; use of 1990 as planning base year; use of models for work trips; impacts of new development or redevelopment; journeys to work within a particular sector; and the provision of equal transportation service for all.
