TASK FORCE REPORT ON ASTM D 2419: SAND EQUIVALENT VALUE OF SOILS AND FINE AGGREGATE, PREPARED FOR ASTM SUBCOMMITTEE D 04.51

An inter-laboratory study is reported which compared ASTM D 2419 test results using 3 diifferent sample preparation techniques. Established Procedures A and B were compared against a new proposed Procedure C used by the Georgia Department of Transportation. The latter is an alternate referee method that is less difficult. The paper describes an 8-laboratory round-robin test to demonstrate equal reliability. The Standard Test Method for Sand Equivalent Values of Soils and Fine Aggregate, and the ASTM E 491 Data Analysis for Eight Lab Studies Using Minus No. 4 Fraction results are presented in appendices.
