A LOOK AT WHAT SOME STATES ARE DOING ... MODEL PORT CONCEPT IN COLORADO
Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS), Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) and Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) technology tools are being used by the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Port of Entry in a flow-through port concept aimed at streamlining port activites in Trinidad. Using AVI and WIM technologies legally permitted trucks that meet legal weight restrictions may bypass the Port of Entry, never having to exit off of the highway. It allows all vehicles that are required to clear ports to merge into the right lane about a half mile from the facility. Details of the system are briefly described. This Model Port concept offers significant productivity benefits to the trucking industry.
