TWIN RIVERS HARNESSED FOR MEXICAN HYDROPOWER

The Zimapan hydroelectric scheme, located 120 km northwest of Mexico City, will, upon its completion in 1994, be capable of generating 1292.4 GWh/year of power. The construction site, measuring 22 km from end to end, consists of a 210 m-high dam, a 0.6 km spillway, 28 km of tunnels, a pressure shaft, a surge chamber, a power house and a network of penstocks.
