A SYNOPSIS OF A FRAMEWORK FOR DISCUSSION ON THE ENVIRONMENT: THE GREEN PLAN AND ITS IMPLICATIONS ON THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY

The author describes an extensive series of consultations with the public conducted by Environment Canada in conjunction with other federal departments. The specific areas of concern discussed were:(1) t ransportation, and within it the following six sub-categories: global warming; air quality; energy; health aspects; environmental emergencies; and legislation, and (2) environment and energy. The above areas of concern are being reviewed and will be incorporated into the green plan. The green plan will emphasize better decision-making and collective responsibility as a means of resolving environmental problems. The policy will set out a plan of action to address specific issues of concern to Canadians.
