ANCHOR BOLT FORCES FOR MOMENT-RESISTING COLUMN BASES

A widely used method of designing column baseplates and anchor bolts for axial loads and bending moment is examined. It is shown that if the welded connection between column and baseplate is of low capacity, a yield criterion other than that usually assumed may apply, leading to changes in design loads. These changes could lead to increased bolt loads and reduced loads on the baseplate.
