LOAD-SPACE FORMULATION FOR TIME-DEPENDENT STRUCUTRAL RELIABILITY
This paper proposes a formulation in the load process space. The theory for the Monte Carlo estimation of the initial failure probability and the outcrossing rate for time-dependent structural reliability problems with uncertain strength characteristics is outlined in this paper. The formulation is given in the hyperpolar load space and generalized directional simulation is used for solution. It is pointed out that the structural resistance can be obtained for any direction in the load space and the conditional probability of failure can be calculated. Two examples are included to illustrate the method and to provide comparison to previous work. The examples show that the method is feasible in practical applcations.
